Summer Trends 2014 The Return Of Neon
22nd April 2014 | Posted in Womens & Prints, Patterns & Colours by H. Simpson
Neon is back with a bang this season and has once again been incorporated into clothing from some of the best brands around. The shocking, luminous colours we love to wear scream 'look at me' and are a great 80's throwback. Reigniting past trends is something we British love to do; reinventing a trend in the most modernised and updated way. This time around, neon has been incorporated into fashion a little differently; gone are the headbands, spandex leggings and legwarmers and instead, we have this season's bags, accessories and dresses in hot pinks and acidic lemon and lime tones. A great alternative to a pastel hue, neon colours add vibrancy and sharpness to an outfit, however the trick here is to not wear too much all at the same time. Injecting some major colour into the summer wardrobe brings with it positive vibes and encourages general happiness! To shop all things neon, click here.
Pops of neon are in full effect this summer from bright pink blazers to casual footwear, we are currently loving this trend! The most effective way to wear neon is with one block of colour which can be used as a blank canvas to build your neon look upon. Black or white are best as this will enable the neon to stand out in the most eyecatching way. For example the Alisya Curved Hem Jacket should be worn over a dress that's one single block of colour or with jeans and a plain top so that the jacket is doing all the talking and is the stand out piece. This can also be done the opposite way. Take the Ted Baker Halina Dress and choose a white or black bag and shoes to accessorise with, whilst at the same time allowing the dress to work its magic! Adding a neon twist to your outfit is a great way to liven up a dull look, adding interest and character to the outfit in a fun, playful way. Wear the look casually using the French Connection Mozart Top with dark denim jeans and a statement necklace or create a dressed up look with the Alys Contrast Fold Top with matching heels.

To add more colour without going overboard on the look, combine neon colours together in one single item. The Medina Dress and Maison Scotch Summer Knit are great examples of this. Incorporating great use of neon, the colours have been thrown together to create a colour clash that somehow works. Ted Baker have used a vibrant neon pink within many of their garments this season which can be seen below with the Gyda Top and Tena Bag. This has also been used within their accessories, dresses and footwear. For a tiny pop of neon colour, invest in Ice Watch's Sili Watch in a fluorescent green for something different and striking. Ice Watch have a great range of bright, eyecatching colours, check out the new Crazy Watches for a modern looking, neon laced watch.
