To celebrate 120 years of Barbour, the brand have this season produced a various range of jackets, divided into sub categories with regards to British traditional lifestyles and hobbies. These ranges are split into Heritage, Lifestyle, Classic and Sporting, as well as Barbour's Authentic Motorcycle Collection. The Barbour Lifestyle collection are split into even smaller sections depending on the traditional British heritage the jacket is based on. Here, is a quick guide of whats what in the world of Barbour S/S '14 at Masdings.com...
Dress TartanTartan has been a huge trend in women's wear this season and Barbour are not ones to miss out! Incorporated into the lining of many jackets such as the Barbour Sycamore Trench Coat, the tartan print is symbolic and represents Barbour's Scottish heritage, starting out in Ayrshire and expanding the business into a global brand.
Equestrian StyleWith Tattersall checked print linings, the Equestrian range feature quilted jackets that offer a silhouette shape with added detailing such as suedette trimming and a cropped length. Barbour have embraced the equestrian look this season, even incorporating it into the childrenswear. Horse prints have been adorned on the front of t-shirts such as the Joy Crew T-Shirt and a horse printed lining features in many of the quilted jackets.
SeafarerHidden within the Lifestyle collection is the 'Seafarer' range. As well as sailing style jackets and nautical stripes, the range is also a nod to the British fishing heritage as it is Barbour who would supply workwear to the Northumbrian finishing communities which is what the iconic Beacon symbol seen within this range represents.
British WaterwaysThe Summer Liddesdale and Beadnell feature feminine printed linings that are displayed on each cuff and collar. For some time now, this lining has been a pretty floral print and this season is no exception. Keeping things fresh and updated, Barbour have this season called upon Yorkshire based crafts designer Julie Dodsworth to create the new floral design. Inspired by her life on the canals, the distinctive designs this time feature a cartoon-like print, whilst sticking to the canal boat art traditions and 18th Century Folk Art, resulting in iconic shapes being produced within the design such as daisys, hearts and roses. Incorporating these along with particular chosen colours of the canals, a collection of five different prints have been produced;
- Mill Stream
- Nature Walk
- Daisyfield
- May Fair
- Candle Bridge
Look out for these prints among the S/S collection.
Barbour InternationalBarbour International may be a part of the Barbour brand, yet the brand stands alone in its own right. The distinction between the two brands are that Barbour International offer a complete individual style compared to Barbour. Each jacket has been produced with inspiration from the British motorcycling heritage, dating back to 1936 when the International Six Days Trials event took place. A wax cotton one piece suit named the Barbour International was produced and in turn were worn by almost every British team until 1977. Due to this mass popularity (even Steve McQueen wore one), the Barbour International jacket became the inspiration behind the motorcycling inspired collections. Usually belted and a tighter fit than the standard Barbour, Barbour International jackets offer masculine style jackets with a feminine twist.
