For an on trend Spring jacket, look no further than these picks, each in different styles and fits. For smart yet versatile jackets, Barbour, Ted Baker and Michael Kors have produced some great quality, classic garments whereas casual favourites Superdry are back with their ever popular Windcheaters and some new festival inspired designs...
The Ted Baker Meyaa is a biker jacket with a difference. A fitted design that is flared at the bottom to flatter the figure and with contrasting panels to create a more feminine look to contrast with the tough element of the biker look. This season we have biker jackets from the likes of French Connection, Religion, Michael Kors and Ted Baker; each design vastly different to the other, incorporating intricate detailing and textures. The Meyaa uses textured leather panels and an asymmetric zip fastener to create a unique yet sharp design.
The Trench coat dates back to the First World War where both high end brands Burberry and Aquascutum claim to have been the sole inventor. Worn by officers of the British Army, where it gained its name the Trench due to it being worn in the trenches, the jacket was worn for both practical use and to make an authoritative statement. The Trench later became a fashionable piece of outerwear, in particular after being worn by the likes of Audrey Hepburn in Breakfast at Tiffanys. Many garments were made iconic by the character Holly Golightly, large framed sunglasses, the little black dress and of course the classic Trench. This Michael Kors creation is simple with an understated elegance, something Audrey herself would have worn. Large gold branded buttons adorn the front of the coat creating a statement and the waist belt enables the trench to be tightened to create a more feminine shape for such a masculine coat.
The Superdry Windcheaters are one of Superdry's most popular pieces. With a triple zip feature, the Windcheater is the ultimate casual outdoor wear at reasonable pricing. The Windcheater is great for something practical and essential and is updated each season with alternative coloured stitching on the back and top shoulder.
Another Trench style jacket, this time from outdoor wear experts Barbour. This season, Barbour have incorporated many different British heritage lifestyle themes into their jackets and this trench has been inspired from its military roots. As well as this, the tartan lining and piping are a nod to the Scottish background of Barbour as well as being one of the biggest printed trends right now.
A contrasting difference to the Windcheater, the Flag jacket is the ultimate festival jacket. The limited edition jacket is military inspired complete with multiple deep pockets and drawstring features. The Flag jacket gets its name from the Japanese printed flag lining that is also detachable. If your wearing this to your festival, don't forget your Hunters and tent!
The Downham Quilted Jacket is styled in a casual blazer form. The elasticated waist enables the jacket to be fitted and flattering with a look of an equestrian theme using suedette shoulder pads, collar and pocket trimming. A Tattersall print lines the interior of the jacket for an authentic, country feel, incorporating traditional British lifestyles within the jacket. The lightweight feel of the jacket means its great for the temperatures this season brings and versatile enough to be worn casually as an outdoor jacket or dressed up as a blazer for a much smarter look with a pair of jeans.
Based on the men's iconic Barbour jacket; the Bedale, the women's Beadnell is altered every season. Each updated version uses an alternative pattern for the sleeves, lining and undercollar. This is usually a patterned floral print and this season is no exception. Featuring a multicoloured, cartoon-like floral design, the waxed jacket offers a mixture of feminine coolness. This season, the design has been created by designer Julie Dodsworth who has been inspired by the colours and textures of the riverbanks and canals. Julie Dodsworth has put her designs to many Barbours this season which has enabled Barbour to create the British Waterways Collection.
The Bozica Parka by Ted Baker offers a twist on the standard festival Parka. To contrast with the deep midnight colour, the small intricate features such as the zip fasteners are plated in rose gold for that feel of luxury. Like the Flag Jacket, the waist can be cinched in for a more feminine feel and offers the luxury of a detachable hood. Being such a dark colour enables the jacket to become a blank canvas that can be brightened up with any accessory colour of your choice without the worry of a clash.
Tweeds are a manmade British material made from various threads including wool and cotton. Produced mainly in the areas of Carlisle, Scotland and Donegal, Ireland, the grainy textured fabric is used to create many classic staple pieces and a favourite with some of the world's top designers. This Michael Kors creation is a cotton tweed that has been complimented with shiny gold branded zip features and a belted waist to create a cinched in look.
