The Art Of Layering

While the weathers still a little harsh, pair your new summer clothes with old winter garments to create a warmer fit. Layering can be so easy, as long as you are adding items on top of another, you are mastering the art of layering. This can be done with items such as a jacket, scarf, jewellery, etc. The best tip for layering is to start with garments that are the most fitted and leave the looser clothing for adding over the top so as to avoid looking too bulky - which is what you don't want to happen!
These Maison Scotch tops have already been layered up, have a look at how they've done this below. Both items have started with a simple vest top with a long sleeved top thrown over the top to add some definition. You can do this yourself with two separate tops to create a whole new look. This again, is making more use out of your wardrobe and bringing together items to create a whole new look and this can be done with a mixture of summer and winter clothes together. This is also a great way of becoming experimental within your appearance and adds a twist to your everyday wear if your stuck in a style rut.
This season, we have lots of summer knitwear which can be used for layering purposes such as the French Connection Bright Neon Knit Jumper. Superdry and Levi have some plain vest tops that can be used to wear underneath, this Superdry Orange Sewn Muscle Tank is a perfect colour choice.
Adding something over the top... You can also add a printed jacket on top of a plain top. It doesn't have to be difficult, add a printed blazer to be the standout piece of the outfit or instead pair a plain blazer with a printed top. If you haven't noticed already, prints are going to be seen all over this summer, so get in on this trend fast!
To add something underneath... Summer isn't here just yet but its hard to tear your eyes away from the new S/S range, particularly the floral printed garments courtesy of Ted Baker. To add some warmth to a top like the Jara Electric Day Dream Jumper, add a long sleeved top underneath. By doing this, it also enables you to turn a dressed up top into a more casual, everyday piece.
To add an accessory... Adding small details and accessories to a basic outfit allows the dynamic of the outfit to change. This can be done with items such as a pair of tights, a scarf or even jewellery. Add a Vivienne Westwood necklace or bracelet to the equation and if you want to carry on the layering, add a watch too.
