On The Hunt

2nd July 2013 | Posted in Womens & Festivals by H. Simpson
Glastonbury has been and gone and all that's left are Hunter shaped footprints in the mud. But fear not, for there are many more festivals taking place in the next couple of months so there's enough time to read up on why you should invest in a pair of quality Wellington boots. Hunters saw a rise in popularity when Kate Moss was spotted wearing them at a previous Glastonbury, hand in hand with Pete Doherty. Now, at festivals all over, people are seen donning their Hunters in multiple colours and styles. This year, once again, Hunters were the essential staple piece in their general festival attire. Whether girls wore shorts, leggings or skinny jeans, it was Hunters that adorned the feet of many. The fashion choice of many was one of the most interesting things about Glastonbury this year. Always a lover of people watching, it seemed a majority of people were this year pushing the boundaries to a fashion place I loved. The most common styles were wearing a scarf in the hair, Wayfarers, floral print and a general 80's type theme; acidy colours and washout denim, crop tops, dungarees and oversized baggy tops with leggings. The fact that Glastonbury is such a diverse mix of generations makes Glastonbury what it is. Whoever you are, whatever culture your from and whatever your style, Glastonbury remains the most open-minded and cosmopolitan and each generation are wearing Hunters time and time again. Hunters aren't just for the young generation but the old too. In fact Hunters have actually been given a Royal Warrant and Queenie herself has been seen in them as was Diana. If they're fit for a princess...

Standard Black

Everyone has their own individual style and which Hunters you want can depend on your choice of outfit. I have the matte black pair as it goes with any outfit and its a more classic look. However many will be seen sporting a rainbow of pastel shades and acid colours as this season its all about colour. This can also be done though with a pair of black Hunters and a flash of bright colour incorporated into your clothing. But which finish are you going to choose: matte or gloss?!

Colour Pop

Matte Red - Angelina Jolie first made the red version popular when she sported them in Mr and Mrs Smith. However, I've noticed the red has been a popular colour this year, even Professor Green was spotted wearing them at this year's Glastonbury. Rizzle Kicks decided to don their Hunters on stage during their performance, even changing the words on their 'Down with the Trumpets' song to suit what footwear they were wearing. Ronnie Wood was another, tweeting 'My red wellies for Glastonbury have just arrived :)' and the following day tweeting 'Heading to #glastonbury - despite the heatwave my red wellies are ON!''.

Pixie Lotte, Kelly Brook, Kelly Osbourne, Natalie Portman, Vanessa Hudgens Red wasn't the only colour choice of Hunters this year even with the celebs. Its also interesting to note that it seems each celebrity that's chosen a particular colour has done based on their personality/style. For example Nicki Minaj has worn a pea green pair that resembled her hair and Katie Price has a hot pink pair which isn't surprising seeing as most of her possessions are bought in pink. Celebrities are also clothing their kids in them in particular Violet Affleck who seems to have a pair in every colour! Enamel Gloss - Another colour that seems to always miss a mention when it comes to wellies is white. Eyecatching and will go with any colour you decide to wear, people fear this colour will be pointless because of the mud, but aren't all wellies going to get just as visibly muddy? Take a look at this enamel colour:

From Long to Short

Hunters don't have to be used for the festival season alone. The Olsen twins are forever seen out and about in their dark coloured favourites. A list celebrities wear theirs out and about shopping and Bella even wears them in Twilight! To go for something a little different in terms of size, take a look at the shorter version of the classic boot. A cool unique look would be to wear a short pair of hunters with skinny jeans like you would any other boot. Cameron Diaz has been spotted sporting this look.

Charity Boots

Due to the wide celebrity following Hunter still seems to have, Hunter have joined forces with charities and celebrities to raise money. One of them being the Water Aid auction back in 2008 when a selection of hand-picked celebrities put pen to welly and personalised a pair of Hunters. Celebrities included Kate Moss, Groove Armada, The View, Elbow and Mark Ronson.
During this years Glastonbury, Hunter decided to go down and dish out 5000 pairs of limited edition 'BeAheadliner' red Hunter wellies in exchange for their own. Their own were then donated to The Red Cross. This is probably the reason there was such a lot of red!
