Italy- famed with the talents for fantastic food, fine wines, eclectic European style and now, fantastic footwear.
Pantofola d'Oro is one of the main stays of Italian footwear history. Founded in 1886 by the Lazzarini family, this now international brand started life as a small cobblers under the family name in Ascelo Piceno-
a small town on the west coast of Italy.
The Lazzarini's started out by making wrestling shoes and eventually merged into making football boots. Every pair made was made by hand with the utmost care and attention, leading to the small cobblers gaining a highly reputable clientelle, as word of the quality of their products spread.
In the 1950's, the Lazzarini's cobblers counted John Charles, a huge Juventus football star at the time, as one of their customers. It was famed that during one of his fittings, he announced that "These are not football boots. They are slippers...golden slippers."
The term stuck, and before long the Lazzarini family cobbler's had rebranded to become Pantofola d'Oro- 'Golden slipper' in Italian.
The combination of innovation, high quality materials, and pure craftsmanship led to an ever increasing following, as word spread of the comfort and control that Pantofola d'Oro boots give the player.
Since the labels birth, they have enjoyed huge success through some of the golden era's of football. Pantofola d'Oro was at the heart of Holland's 'total football' approach, providing football boots to some of the best players in the world.
However, the golden days were short lived, and with the sporting giants like Nike and Adidas taking centre stage in the 90's, Pantofola d'Oro began to struggle to keep up with the pack, as gimmicks and modern tehcnology took over from the role of classic craftsmanship and historic styling.
Pantofola changed its foucs, and began to produce high end luxury trainers, using the same practices and principles that the Lazzarini family laid down in 1886.
The results were staggering, and the Pantofola d'Oro trainers of today carry an unrivalled level of quality, design and craftsmanship, whilst still carrying some original detialings from the companies illustrious past.
The three star branding stays prominent on all of the designs as a sign of Pantofola's stance on quality. The Italian colours sit proudly on a huge majority of their styles too, as the brand pays homage to its roots.
Expect styles greatly influenced by the brands footballing past, from moulded soles, to suede inserts, strong branding, and intricate lacing systems.
Much like their move into football boots, Pantofola d'Oro's transition into luxury footwear has proved a huge success, with celebrity endorsements ranging from Adam Levine of Maroon 5, to Zac Efron, Estelle and a host of sports stars from the USA and the UK.
Try linking your Pantofola d'Oro trainers with a pair of tapered Diesel Krooley jeans. The regular fit on the thigh gives great comfort, whilst the tapered leg will help to show off the great detail on your new trainers.
Best for casual wear, team up with a t-shirt, polo, or Oxford shirt, but remember-these trainers are all about classic Italian style, so don't try and dilute the look.
